Charlie joined The Mortgage Lender 12 months ago as part of an apprenticeship programme created by the firm. Having undergone intensive training, as well as being taken under the wing of many board members, Charlie now manages broker relationships and business across the Midlands.
In our latest Sixty Second interview we find out what surprised him most about taking on a role in the mortgage industry, how he made the move from wedding planner to business development manager and he makes a shocking confession – he likes chick flicks!

If you won ÂŁ10 million tomorrow, what would you do with it?
- Give my parents enough to retire and buy a house in Barbados
- Provide other family and friends enough to be very comfortable
- Donate to the Alzheimer’s group charity
- Buys loads of materialistic things (my girlfriend would definitely have a few ideas)
- Buy a racehorse
- Invest in property
What’s your guilty pleasure?
I’m a big fan of chick flicks.
Biggest compliment you’ve ever received from a customer?
When I was a wedding planner, I organised and led many weddings and regularly received compliments but the one that stands out was as I was shutting the wedding down, every wedding guest started chanting my name – including the bride and groom – because I had made their day so special. I am still in contact with them now and they thank me each year on their anniversary.
What’s the most surprising part of your role?
How enjoyable it is. I have always been a firm believer that you must enjoy going to work. I can honestly say that I love this job, my role, the team at head office in Glasgow and the sales team on the road.
What’s your superhero power…
If I had a super power, I think I would like to be able to fly. Getting to my appointments would be a lot easier than getting stuck on the M6 all the time.
