Sixty Seconds with…Charlie Stack, business development manager for the Midlands at The Mortgage Lender

Posted Wednesday 13th of June 2018
Announcements

Charlie joined The Mortgage Lender 12 months ago as part of an apprenticeship programme created by the firm. Having undergone intensive training, as well as being taken under the wing of many board members, Charlie now manages broker relationships and business across the Midlands.

In our latest Sixty Second interview we find out what surprised him most about taking on a role in the mortgage industry, how he made the move from wedding planner to business development manager and he makes a shocking confession – he likes chick flicks!

Summarise your role at The Mortgage Lender and how you help customers?

I build relationships with brokers and make their lives easier.

Describe yourself in three words?

Dependable, motivated, enthusiastic

Most surprising item on your CV?

I and three others organised a charity beer festival in aid of Cavendish Cancer Care where we raised £4000 for the charity. I have also appeared on Crimewatch three times for reconstructions!

What do you think is The Mortgage Lender’s greatest strengths?

The people. We genuinely care – and that goes across the whole company.

What five items couldn’t you live without?

Sky Sports News, football, coffee, my phone and my dog.

What’s is the most important attribute of a business development manager?

You must be reliable. My work phone is with me 24 hours 7 days a week. If a broker rings me at 6pm on a Sunday when I am sat watching tv, I will answer.

If you won £10 million tomorrow, what would you do with it?

A LOT!

  • Give my parents enough to retire and buy a house in Barbados
  • Provide other family and friends enough to be very comfortable
  • Donate to the Alzheimer’s group charity
  • Buys loads of materialistic things (my girlfriend would definitely have a few ideas)
  • Buy a racehorse
  • Invest in property

What’s your guilty pleasure?

I’m a big fan of chick flicks.

Biggest compliment you’ve ever received from a customer?

When I was a wedding planner, I organised and led many weddings and regularly received compliments but the one that stands out was as I was shutting the wedding down, every wedding guest started chanting my name – including the bride and groom – because I had made their day so special. I am still in contact with them now and they thank me each year on their anniversary.

What’s the most surprising part of your role?

How enjoyable it is. I have always been a firm believer that you must enjoy going to work. I can honestly say that I love this job, my role, the team at head office in Glasgow and the sales team on the road.

What’s your superhero power…

If I had a super power, I think I would like to be able to fly. Getting to my appointments would be a lot easier than getting stuck on the M6 all the time.

Final thought…

“Give young people a chance, our generation might just surprise you”

Marc Kielburger WE Charity.
