Working with the Head of Risk & Governance, the role of a Risk & Governance Officer is to support the wider Leadership Team, the Board of Directors and other Governance Committees through the oversight and application of the Company’s Risk Management and Governance frameworks.

You will play a key part in the hands-on application of the Frameworks by reviewing and highlighting key sources of risk, testing controls to ensure they are operating effectively, and supporting the effective performance of corporate governance, board and committee meetings. Deputising for the Head of Risk & Governance when necessary.

The Role & Responsibilities

• Supporting and implementing risk management processes for the Company, which includes an analysis of the impact on the Company when risks occur.
• Supporting and performing risk assessment: analysing current risks and identifying potential risks that are affecting the Company.
• Performing a risk evaluation: evaluating the Company’s previous handling of risks and comparing potential risks with criteria set out by the Company such as financial impact, customer impact and regulatory requirements.
• Risk reporting tailored to the relevant audience. Educating the Board of Directors and Committee Chairs about the most significant risks to the business; ensuring business heads understand the risks that might affect their departments; ensuring individuals understand their own accountability for individual risks.
• Conducting risk reviews, which will include liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
• Supporting changes to policies and/or key documents, engaging with appropriate stakeholders.
• Overall responsibility for maintaining the Company’s risk and events logs.
• Building risk awareness amongst staff by providing support, education, and training.
• Support well runs corporate governance, board, and committee meetings - with agendas agreed, papers collated, produce formal minutes of meetings, and manage the production of all associated records and documentation.
• The administration of formal constitutional documentation and records e.g., Terms of reference, attendance records, follow up actions.
• An appropriate knowledge of the commercial, legislative, and regulatory framework within which the Company operates.

The Person

• You will be able to work on your own initiative, produce high quality work to tight deadlines which will require the ability to prioritise tasks, and be able to manage a range of tasks to successful conclusion. You will be highly proficient in the use of MS Office applications.
• A background in risk management with excellent problem solving and analytical skills, experience of risk control self-assessment, along with the ability to apply those skills across a variety of business processes.
• Great communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to form effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
• Experience of servicing senior boards and committees and understands good governance.
• Ability to understand broader business issues.
• Communication and presentation skills.
• Analytical skills and an eye for detail.
• Drafting written material to a very high standard - excellent proof-reading skills are essential.
• Commercial awareness.
